newton's first law of motion
Last night, I was overcome by Newton's first law of motion: Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it. There was no force applied to me strong enough to get me out of (not off of) my red couch. I finished the book I have been reading, thoroughy enjoying it. But now I have the task of picking a new book to read. This is always difficult for me. I have tons of books on my shelves, but often I choose to read the books that I do not yet own. That made me ponder the books that I have and why I have so many I have not read. Here are the tabulations I made, excluding anthologies and reference works:
- Books I've read: 143
- Books I've started reading and never finished (5 pages into to 3/4 of the way finished): 55
- Never even opened: 96

i'm not sure i can name 143 books.
I cannot believe you posted a blog naming the number of books you have read. Just as I cannot believe you spent Sat. night counting them.
Court,
So glad you commented on my blog so we could reconnect! Love your blog. I can so relate to your last post as I am a hopeless bookworm and an English Education major! I commend your sense that your job is your calling and totally agree. You are having a huge impact in your students lives, what an incredible calling. Keep up the good work that God has prepared for you before the foundations of the earth!
Those 143 books your've read, i'm assuming that is just what you've read from your personal library? Since 2000 I have kept a running list of books read (and finished) per year, listing date finished (i always write in the book jacket when I start and finish a book as well.). It is amazing how when i read over my lists, it jogs my memory as to what was going on in my life at the time. I'm averaging @ 50 books per year now (started @ 35) not counting bible studies that i do. Just thought you'd like to know there is somebody else out there that loves books (and the knowledge I gain) as much as you do.
Let's stay in touch. I'm adding your blog to my favorites!
Does that mean you own 294? i am thinking of a problem...what percent of courtney's books are unread...
so SNAZZY - toggled comments and a wider blog!!
Deitra, I cannot imagine reading 50 books a year!! Does reading my books 6 times that I teach get to count in my number?
Ken, I think we should have a book naming bee...
