on being home for Christmas
Yes, this blog is sadly neglected. But my parents have given me some gems in the 14 hours I have been home so far and this seems the appropriate venue to share them.A tidbit from Dad: After missing the showing of The Princess Bride in the theater I flew home yesterday specifically to see with Erin and Julie because of 3 hour flight delay, I met them out for a drink and had a beer. One beer. Prior to leaving the house, my father had again cautioned me, as he has every time I've left the house at night since I could drive, that if I was too drunk to drive home, I could call him. So I arrive home a few hours later, quite sober, say goodnight to my parents and climb in the bed to read. A little later, I get up to use the bathroom, across the hall from my parents' bedroom. Leaving the bathroom, my father shouts from his bed, "Did you just throw up?!"
This morning, in discussing how my mother has had her eyelids lifted half an inch because she is losing her periphery vision and how likely I will have to have the same in 30 years, we turn to the subject of how much it had hurt. She informed me she had been given general anesthesia and then vicadin after and had felt no pain. Ensuing conversation:
Courtney: The last time I had general anesthesia, after my knee surgery, I threw up.
Mom: Oh, I threw up after I had you.
