reading material for Ami
School's been back in session for 2 weeks now. In many ways, it feels like I never had a summer break. Mainly because most of my students I have already taught before. They are way too comfortable with me, so I've been quite "crunchy" as they would say. The sage advice to new teachers is not to smile until November. I've always thought that was a bunch of bunk, but they might drive me to it this year.On Wednesday, I signed my child up for the SAT. As we were filling out the personal interests and activities questionnaire, she did not understand why I would not let her mark band and debate team. Sorry kid, those 2 day stints don't count as participation. Then yesterday afternoon I walked out onto the track for cross country practice and found her lined up in front of the cheerleaders. All I could do was shake my head and laugh.
I whined and complained my last weekend of freedom before going back to work on the 6th and dragged through that first week of pre-planning. But then the kids came in that first Monday morning, and in spite of all their talkativeness and purported reticence to be in school, I remembered why I love my job.
Oh, and Kate and I hung my copy of the World's Longest Crossword Puzzle last night. It's 21 feet long and stretches the length of the hall in the living room, 2 dining room walls, and into the kitchen. Hours of entertainment to follow!

An update! Courtney, my love, thanks for giving me something new to read.
And I totally look forward to working on the crossword puzzle sometime. I hope it came in a package market "easy/beginner." Otherwise, I probably won't be of much assistance.
xoxo
Yea for new posts!!! And awesome pictures of my second fav city in the US! The French stuff almost deterred me from commenting, but fortunately I am not a total idiot and figured it out.
