a brief interlude

I shall return to posting about the trip, maybe later this afternoon. But for now, a brief interlude about the present.

Its Labor Day weekend, and football has AT LAST begun! The weekend started out with North Atlanta routing Carver 32-0. And now I look forward to this evening's clash between FSU and Miami. Go NOLES!!

Saturday, was a very "city" day. On a whim, Kate and I took MARTA to downtown Decatur for the Decatur Book Festival. A poet I really enjoy, Thomas Lux, was one of three poets reading, and although he is a prof at GaTech, I had never heard him read. Lux's reading was as good as I expected it to be, but the woman after him... whoa- never again. I felt so citified to walk to the MARTA station and pop on over to Decatur without ever starting a car.

Last night, Kate and I headed up to Cloudland Canyon in NW Georgia for a brief camping trip. Landforms in Georgia just don't compare to the West. For all that I had heard Cloudland Canyon was gorgeous, it dimmed beside the canyon in the Tetons. The fact that there was no water flowing down the waterfall or through the river in the canyon floor was rather disappointing, especially given all the warning signage! We did have a good time camping and got an excellent fire going. Thankfully, we had enough water, Kate didn't cut off her finger, we weren't attacked by animals in the middle of the night, and we didn't starve. Nor did it rain and we had enough mustard.
