rodents

I would just like to say that I hate rodents. OK, maybe prairie dogs are fun to watch and chipmunks can be amusing, but keep them away from me.

Opossums used to be the worst- I have horrible memories of the cat trapping one in the garage, both of them hissing and screaming as I walked out to catch the bus in kindergarten. Indelibly etched into my memory.

And now, a mouse has moved into our house. I'm OK with bugs- I don't cower from them; if there's a roach, I'm gonna kill it. Mice though- no way. The mere thought of one running across the floor makes me want to stand up on the couch and scream. This is what happened to Kate last night. Fortunately, she did not scream, but came and knocked on my door and pointed to the living room with an unfortunate look on her face. I thought it was another homeless person knocking on the door.

No. A mouse. Which precipitated a late night trip to Kroger for killing devices. Anyone have any better suggestions than mouse traps and peanut butter, 'cause they ain't workin'?

I can loan you dill for a couple days - he doesn't sneeze anymore. Quite the handy unwelcome house guest bouncer.

I'm totally not normally a wimp either; but mice completely freak me out. I think a cat is best for taking care of them. Someone recommended mouse/rat poison D-Con to me, but then Hubby said that kills the rodents slowly, so often they die in their nests inside your walls! Yuck yuck yuck! Needless to say, I have not yet used the stuff.

so, there are these paper sheets that have a sticky side to them...the work pretty well...just place where you think the mice might be, and presto...mice gallore in a couple of days...the hard part is picking the thing up with a bunch of dead mice stuck to it.

So last night while I was making dinner, the mouse DID run across the floor 2 inches from my feet and I did scream, REALLY loud. Probably why my voice is gone today. But he has eaten almost all of the D-Con and we spread more in the basement today, and put some in the peanut butter on the trap, so he should be gone gone gone soon soon soon.

two words: glue trap.

I have a rodent problem in my room at school and these have caught 7 of 'em. It's not the most humane thing, but it works...and I guess I was lucky b/c I wasn't the one who had to dispose of the little fellas...

Good luck to you!

Just be glad you don't have them in your attic, running around on the other side of your ceiling, nesting in the insulation. They're rather hard to catch up there....

Why do posts about rodents initiate more comments than anything else? Its dead- 3 days and it hasn't eaten the pb out of the trap. Hopefully dead in the basement... too cold to smell it for awhile. I think a bird dived into the chimney the other night...
