Dartmouth
Saturday morning began with Jeremy giving us a tour of Dartmouth, including a brief history of Eleazar Wheelock. Our tour encompassed a couple of libraries, including the English library, which I could have moved into in a heartbeat, classroom buildings, a stop by one of the secret societies (Kate and I became convinced Jeremy was a member), and a visit to Robert Frost and the Lone Pine. Everywhere we went, there were people reading Harry Potter, torturing me.

We ate lunch on the green (where there were even more people reading Harry Potter) before heading down to the Ledyard Canoe Club where we rented a canoe and set out on the Connecticut for a few hours. We paddled to a small island and beached the canoe. The water was really cold, but Jeremy insisted on swimming anyway. Kate and I were a bit more reticent, but really had very little say in the matter as we were thrown in. Jeremy then took off in the canoe, leaving us stranded in the middle of the Connecticut. Thankfully, as we showed no signs of chagrin at his departure, he returned quickly. Paddling back upriver was something of a challenge. It was ridiculously windy and somehow I, with no ability to steer, wound up in the rear of the canoe. There were multiple times when we were regressing in spite of all our (best?) efforts.

We spent the remainder of the afternoon enjoying tea and throwing the frisbee on the green, two of the best Saturday afternoon activities ever. We stopped at the Parkers, ostensibly on the way back to our campsite to make dinner, and wound up spending the night there.
