The Big 3-0
That's right, last Tuesday, I turned 30. It wasn't nearly the momentous occasion I expected it to be, given all the usual hype about turning 30. I felt no anxiety leading up to the big day, nor have I felt any since. (Really, I haven't felt anything since, as I came down with the flu the day after.) Apparently, this is unusual. However, I am content with my life. Sure, there are things I would like to have that I do not have, but for the overwhelming most part, I have all that a girl could ask for. I suppose part of my lack of anxiety has to do with the fact that I absolutely still consider myself a "girl." I often feel that I have much more in common with my students than with their parents, though I am now right in between their ages. I am still prone to running down steep hills at break-neck speeds, laughing till the tears stream down my face and I cannot breathe, and I certainly still chat with the girlfriends about the opposite sex as if we were in middle school. It was a well-celebrated birthday, commencing with our fourth annual trip to a cabin in the Smoky Mountains. We had a splendid time hanging out, eating, hiking, and playing games. Saturday night held boxes of birthday fun for Jeremy and me. Before we could open the boxes, we first had to uncover them from their hiding places. We both got sweet new t-shirts.

Some folks came over for dinner on Tuesday night and we got to continue the celebration even longer, with the tastiest carrot cake ever, compliments of Amy-love. (As are these pictures.)

I'd love to say that it's been a great year so far, but since I've been sick for all of it, I shall instead say that it should only get better from here!

I'm not ashamed. Some people are into teeth, others into muscles, I'm into nerds. When I met Chris we talked about Joan Didion, Wendall Berry and Tolstoy in our first conversation. Check. Check. Check.
That article made me laugh- I didn't think of you when I orignally read it, but I can totally see it now.
Sad but true, I kind of have the same thing with TV shows... hello Everybody Loves Raymond. Automatic disqualifier.
And I hope you're taking lots of pictures of the cherry blossoms!
You're not the only one out there who feels the same way. It even made the list of "stuff white people like"
