in case you were wondering...
Little 5 Pizza is another iteration of Fellini's, with that L5P something something thrown into the atmosphere. So, sorry, dad, for making you walk 3 miles for pizza. A mere mile would have accomplished the same.On another note, I ran into a friend there from high school , currently residing in Delaware, whom I had not seen since I graduated. Small world L5P is.

summer travels
Oh the places I could go!The plan, as it stands now is to either fly up to New Jersey and join Kate after her family reunion, or a few weeks before her family reunion. Then, we will travel to Prince Edward Island, home of Anne Shirley, where I have always wanted to visit. I can't imagine a better place to indulge all of my silly, girlie, yet ever cherished romantic notions than P.E.I.
From there, we could possibly hit New Brunswick and/or Nova Scotia before heading to Maine, and Acadia NP for sure. From there, Vermont and New Hampshire. Neither of us has ever been to Boston, so a stopover there will be necessary, as well as a dip into Rhode Island. Hopefully, depending on the timing, I will be able to hit Deleware and Connecticut as well.
I have no idea how, having been to all of the surrounding states, I have never managed to make it into Deleware. Said stop would bring me to 7 new states for the summer, and bring the grand total to 36.

PEI! I'm so jealous... I've always wanted to go there-- I even have LMM's journals-- that's how much I was obsessed with her as a girl. I still re-read her books. Sounds like a fun trip! maybe I could convince Gaines to let me go and take Jacob along...heh. Maybe not...well, have fun!

I'd love to go to PEI! That is such a great girls' trip! I've heard they capitalize on the Anne Shirley connection (puff-sleeved, teenage tour guides and all), which I'm sure I would eat right up.

spring has sprung
I love Atlanta in the spring! After a 3 day trip to Florida last week where I waxed nostalgic for my college days, I returned home to Spring in Atlanta! I was able to spend all weekend out of doors, talking with my roommates on my front porch, going on a bike ride with Kate and sitting outside eating Jake's ice cream for the first time in over a year, and riding my bike to Piedmont to throw the frisbee around. The weather was perfect and I couldn't have asked for a better spring weekend.People have been barraging me with questions of late about my summer plans. Other than to take some time to relax and do nothing and the constant desire to travel, I've had nothing to tell them. But, as we sat in the sun, ate ice cream, and talked, ideas began to formulate. More on the specifics later.

confucius
Last week, because some people were coming to observe our school, a variety of inspirational and character-building signs were posted around the building. These included "Passion" and "Inspiration" as well as quotations from great world thinkers. I generally find such signs ridiculous and irritating: how much character improvement and general inspiration are really going to occur from reading a poster in the hallway?Quite the opposite has been the case for me. As I walked upstairs to make some copies on Friday, I was accosted by some words attributed to Confucius: "Give a man a job he loves and he will never work a day in his life."
Whatever.
I love my job. I cannot imagine doing anything else vocationally in my life. Even if offered a promotion, I doubt I would take it. I LOVE TEACHING. I love my students; I love my subject matter. But, my job is WORK. Undeniably WORK. Exhausting, draining, and difficult.
I began to think to myself: All these people who believe this maxim: how frustrating must that be? To have the expectation that if you truly love your job, it will never be work. And yet you go to your job that you love everyday and come home feeling exhausted and drained. And totally frustrated with your life because this maxim you believe to be true is not true in your life and so you feel unfulfilled.
So I felt confirmed in my worldview. At least it assures me that my work will be plagued with thorns and difficulty. Yet I have real hope because I know that one day Christ will crush the serpent under his feet and God's blessings will "flow far as the curse is found."

I totally agree. I love raising puppies but the first word I usually use to describe it is "hard". I love piano, but practicing is work.
Have you heard of demotivational posters? Check out www.despair.com. They'll give you many laughs. I heard the owner of despair.com interviewed on NPR once; he was quite brilliant, insightful. I'm sure you'll appreciate them.

the box
This last weekend, in order to celebrate Jeremy's and my birthdays and get out of Atlanta, some of us went to a cabin in Pigeon Forge and had a grand old time. My friends did a wonderful job of celebrating my birthday and I couldn't have felt more loved. One of the weekend's highlights included "the box." Actually a coffee table, but it doubled as a human storage container. Maybe I turned 9 this year...

post it notes
I think my blog may be feeling neglected. I certainly feel like I am neglecting my blog. So, I shall share my favorite story from this work week.As yearbook advisor, I am also in charge of all school portraits, which includes senior cap and gown photos. They are coming up in few weeks, so the company sent me a poster to let the seniors sign up on. There were only 75 or so time slots and we have 200+ seniors, so it filled up quickly. I got rather tired of students constantly asking questions about what they should do since it was full and I stuck a post it note on top of the sign up sheet, indicating that I was trying to get some extra time slots and would let them know when I had them.
In spite of the note, students began to scratch others' names out and replace those names with their own. That's not a good thing, so I took the sign-up sheet down and just left the post-it note on my door.
As my yearbook students quickly pointed out to me amid bouts of laughter, the post-it note read, "I'm working on getting another date. When I have one, I will make an announcement."
